Liege Airport receives 20-year licence

Liege Airport has been granted an operating licence for 20 years. This permit gives Liege Airport the certainty that they can continue to exist for the next 20 years. A condition of this licence is that a maximum of 50,000 flights per year may be handled. This is an average of about 137 flights per day. Liege Airport was hoping for a maximum of 70,000 flights per year.

Less night flights

The number of night flights at Liege Airport will mainly be reduced. This was an important demand of people living near the airport. Next year, Liege Airport will monitor the noise from the night flights. The noise pollution must decrease by at least 5 percent compared to the measurements of the coming year. In 2024, the noise pollution will have to decrease with at least another 3 percent. It is not yet known if the airport agrees with this decision. Liege Airport can still appeal the requirement of a maximum of 50,000 flights per year.
