Chaos with luggage at Paris Orly due to technical problems
At Paris Orly airport, technical complications have led to significant disruptions for travellers. Aéroports de Paris (ADP), the airport’s operator, estimates that around 10,000 passengers on 40 different flights have been affected by problems with the equipment used for baggage sorting.
Manual processing
Staff were forced to manually process baggage in terminal four because of these unexpected challenges. As a result, departing flights were delayed or some passengers had to do without their luggage. The exact cause of this disruption remains unclear for now. As a temporary solution, the airport decided to redirect some aircraft to other terminals and even to nearby Charles de Gaulle airport.
The French government has reacted with indignation to these problems. Minister Clément Beaune, who is responsible for this area, has described the situation as “unacceptable”. With the Olympics scheduled for next year in mind, France wants to avoid large-scale disruptions to travel at all costs. The minister stressed that this is the type of concrete problem that needs to be closely monitored.
