Paris Orly Airport closed until autumn
Paris Orly Airport will remain closed at least until autumn. This is due to the limited supply of flights and the expected slow recovery of aviation. Commercial air traffic has been cancelled until autumn. The airport of Roissy-CDG will handle summer air traffic, according to the French newspaper ‘Les Echos‘.
Closed since 31 March
Paris Orly Airport has been closed to commercial air traffic since 31 March. The forecasts for the recovery of aviation show that it will take a long time before air traffic is back to its old level. Therefore, it was decided to close the airport until autumn.
Lowest point reached
The lowest point of aviation has now been reached. In April, air traffic dropped by 91% compared to April last year. This is shown by Eurocontrol statistics. According to the statistics, the number of flights in European airspace increased this weekend to 15% of its previous level. Despite the signs of recovery, European air traffic remains very depressed.
2 years of recovery
Ben Smith (Air France-KLM) expects the recovery of aviation to take at least 2 years. He expects the recovery to be slow and in small steps. Unlike other airlines in France, Air France-KLM still flies to domestic destinations such as Marseille, Nice and Toulouse. Air France-KLM also operates cargo flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle. It is waiting for the borders to open up again so that aviation has more room to recover.
