Norwegian gets competition from start-up Flyr
Price-fighter Norwegian will face competition from newcomer Flyr. The start-up Flyr was founded by Erik G. Braathen. A number of former Norwegian managers are also involved in the start-up. Flyr’s first flight will be in the second quarter. This week, the colour scheme was announced as can be seen in the picture. The Boeing 737-800 will be used for the flights. The founders have a lot of experience with this type of aircraft. Also, the planes are relatively cheap to buy at this moment.
30 aircraft
It is the intention that the fleet of Flyr is expanded to 30 aircraft in the short term. Meanwhile, Flyr is busy recruiting pilots and cabin crew. Ticket sales will start in April. Flyr is mainly financed by private investors. A starting capital of 58 million euro is available.
European destinations
Flyr will start within Europe. Flights will mainly be operated between Norway and important European destinations. Flyr will compete with Norwegian, SAS Airlines and Wizz Air.
