New Icelandic airline called PLAY
Iceland has a new airline founded by the former top of WOW Air. The name of the new airline is PLAY Airlines. The intention is that PLAY Airlines will fly in the autumn of 2020. Initially, PLAY Airlines was scheduled to start operations at the end of 2019, but due to a delay regarding the online ticketing system, this has been postponed. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the start has now been postponed further to the autumn of this year.
Certification
PLAY Airlines has sufficient start-up capital and well-trained staff. PLAY Airlines is starting with two Airbus A321 aircrafts. The airline has yet to take delivery of these. PLAY also does not yet have the correct certifications, but this is a matter of formalities. PLAY expects to receive the correct certifications within a few months.
Destinations
PLAY Airlines will take off at six destinations. Flights will depart from Reykjavik Airport (RKV) to Alicante, Berlin, Copenhagen, London, Paris and Tenerife. In the spring of 2021, PLAY also intends to offer flights to North America. The flights will be operated with an Airbus A321. PLAY’s objective is to grow to a fleet of 10 aircrafts within three years.
