Berlin Brandenburg Airport in operation on 31 October
The opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport will take place on 31 October. The local authority Dahme-Spreewald has given permission to the airport to put the terminal into operation. Last week the airport already received permission from the German inspection agency TÜV. The opening is scheduled for 31 October. This is the date on which the winter season starts. The opening of the airport has been delayed a lot and has now been delayed for 9 years. The new airport is located in the south of Berlin and is close to the current Berlin Schönefeld Airport.
Delay
The major delay at Berlin Brandenburg Airport is partly due to construction errors, mismanagement and corruption. The completion of the airport was recently halted due to the corona virus, but the work is now almost complete. Due to the corona virus, it is likely that Berlin Tegel airport will close prematurely. This will be decided next week. Air traffic to and from Berlin will then only go via Berlin Schönefeld Airport until 31 October.
