Alitalia receives €40 million aid package

The Italian government has received approval from the European Commission to offer a €40 million aid package to Alitalia. This sum should compensate for a large part of the damage suffered in the past year. The European Commission says the following about it:

The restrictions introduced in Italy and other countries to limit the spread of a second and third wave of the coronavirus pandemic have severely affected Alitalia’s operations. As a result, Alitalia has suffered significant operating losses until at least 30 April 2021.

As a result of the crisis, Alitalia has already implemented several restructuring measures. A large number of staff have been made redundant. With this new aid package, Alitalia will have the means to look ahead again. The crisis seems largely over and the number of flights in Italy is increasing again as you can see on this flight radar above Italy.
