Air traffic in India has restarted
Domestic air traffic in India resumed this week. Air traffic in India has been at a standstill for 2 months. In the first week there are about 600 flights per day on the schedule. This is about 30% of the normal capacity. According to Indian media the first flight departed this morning at 04:45 from New Delhi to Pune. From Mumbai the first flight departed at 06:45 to Patna. International flights will be resumed later. The exact dates are not yet known.
Uncertainty
There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the flights that continue and which have been cancelled. On several Indian media sites it was reported that a large number of flights were still cancelled at last minute. This is because authorities in various states apply different rules. In Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal there are no flights at all yet.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said during a press conference that all airlines and airports can prepare for full opening on 25 May. So far not all airlines and airports have started. This may take a few more weeks due to necessary precautions.
