Brussels Airport expects 1 million passengers in the summer months
Aviation is recovering. Brussels Airport expects 1 million passengers in the months of July and August. This is a considerable increase compared to the past months, but still a lot less than before the crisis. Last year Brussels Airport handled 5.3 million passengers in July and August. Nevertheless, this is a good recovery and aviation is expected to recover even more in the months thereafter.
Uncertainty
The numbers expected are only an estimate. For many airlines it is not yet known when they will fly again. So if in the coming weeks there will be more airlines that are going to sell plane tickets, the estimate will be adjusted upwards.
130 destinations
Currently, 36 destinations are flown in from Brussels Airport. The intention is to expand this to 130 destinations at the beginning of August. Most of these destinations will be holiday destinations on the Mediterranean Sea. Holiday destinations such as Spain, Italy and Greece are very popular. The extra security measures at Brussels Airport will remain in place for the time being.
