Qantas parks part of the Boeing 787 fleet in the desert

Qantas has decided to park a large part of its Boeing 787 fleet in the American Mojave Desert. Qantas previously parked a number of its Airbus A380 aircraft in this desert. Qantas does not expect to need the aircraft this year because of COVID-19.

New Boeing 787-9 aircraft

Qantas has 11 new Boeing 787-9 aircraft in its fleet. These planes will be flown to the Mojave Desert in September. The Dreamliners will be put into service earlier than the Airbus A380 aircraft, these are expected to be grounded at least until 2023.

Focus on domestic flights

Qantas parks a large part of her longhaul fleet in the desert. As a result, Qantas’ focus is mainly on domestic flights and flights to New Zealand. Qantas currently flies mainly within Australia with the Airbus A330. The reason Qantas parks its aircraft in the American Mojave Desert is the favourable climate. The air is very dry.
